Views from the Ferry

I took these shots from the ferry ride to and from Washington Island in Door County. Being out on the open water gives you a sense of the vastness of Lake Michigan, which feels more like a sea than a lake!

Washington Island

Washington Island lies a few miles off of Wisconsin's Door Peninsula. All travel to the island is by ferry. Among the island's delights are the Schoolhouse Beach (all smooth limestone rocks) and Stavkirke Church, modeled after Norway's Borgund Stave Church (built 1150). Here are some photos from a recent visit. I have a bunch of photos from the ferry ride, too, which I will post soon.

Bailey's Harbor

Bailey's Harbor is a town on the east side of the 'thumb' of Wisconsin in Door County. Its beach is a favorite spot to visit; wildflowers grow along the edges. Here are some photos of what's growing now in early fall, along with remnants, leaves, and berries.

About Town in Fish Creek, WI

We have a favorite store in Fish Creek that we visit when vacationing in Door County. Every year we support this store with our purchases, and I also take lots of photos! I'm drawn to the colors and odd variety of the items for sale. Here's a batch  from our most recent visit to the favorite store and a few others. The last photo is a sign of the times: a thank-you to healthcare workers for their heroism in the pandemic.
